Thin-Film Optoelectronics

Abstract: Optically and electrically active thin-film materials have been aggressively investigated over the last 2 decades to address applications that cannot readily be met with conventional, crystalline semiconductors. Specifically, thin-film materials are ideally suited for applications that require large area, flexible and/or low-cost devices such as solar cells, lighting, displays, and wearable or disposable sensors. This seminar introduces the materials and applications of thin-film optoelectronics. Next the seminar focuses on a subset of thin-film materials research conducted in my lab centered on organic optoelectronics. I will introduce the device physics related to organic solar cells and photodetectors while discussing a few example devices.
